2200 E Elm Street·Tucson, AZ·arizonainn.com

Sabino Canyon is worth an unhurried morning. A perennial creek winds through a boulder-strewn desert canyon at the foot of the Santa Catalinas, the water surprisingly clear, the sycamores pale against all that warm stone. You can walk as far as you like along the canyon road, the mountains rising steep on either side, the light shifting as it angles down between ridgelines. It feels wilder than you expect so close to the city. Further out, Mission San Xavier del Bac sits on the flat southern plain, its white baroque facade startling against the desert sky. Give it more than a glance. Step inside. The interior is dim and ornate and genuinely old, and the quiet there has a particular weight to it.
